Total Eclipse 2002, Part 3

The Sunset and then the next day:
Kim and Allan
Kim and Allan survey the cameras after totality has passed.

Eye Safety
The only way to be truly eye-safe. Allan, Kim and Pin demonstrate they have eyes in the backs of their heads.

Sunset
The sun is still partially occluded but light spillage prevents the camera from seeing this.

Sunset over the Desert
But it's a nice shot anyway.

Desert Sunset II
Everybody's going for sunset shots. Posterisation is evident in the jpeg image.
Desert Sunset II
Partial Occlusion
You can just see the bite still missing from the sun.
Partial Occlusion
Occlusion II
A zoomed shot shows the partial occlusion. The internal reflection images from the camera show it even more clearly.

Occluded Sunset
Now the sun is low enough to see the occlusion clearly with the camera. To the eye it was like watching an iceberg set below the horizon.

Zoomed In
Here is the same thing zoomed in, but it doesn't help much.

Shark's Fin
To the eye it now looks like a shark's dorsal fin on the horizon, but light spillage diminishes the effect.

Last Light
The last bit of the sun disappears.

Morning Exercises
Allan gets into his morning exercise routine using his favourite weight. Statistics show there is very little risk of pregnancy in this position :-)

On the Way Home
We follow the Needham's 4WD on the track out. We follow the dirt roads out, rather than the highway, so we eat their dust for over 300 km!

Back in Adelaide
Outside Anna and Allan's house, the unpacking process begins.

Dinner at Janet's
We returned the 4WD safely to Janet. Janet made us a delicious spaghetti bolognaise, and followed it up with ice cream with home-made caramel. Mmmm-mmmm. It went down very well.
