Opium, Anyone?
Off we go to the villages around Jodhpur. This guy is preparing raw opium to
drink. First he crushes it, then mixes it with water, and strains it through
a muslin sock. Then pour from the ornate pot into your hand, and slurp!

On safari
We drove around the villages by jeep. Here we see a flock of Egyptian Vultures
flying overhead. These birds are huge, but it doesn't show in the photo. Also
the flock is enormous, and there were several flocks around. Lying still
would be a bad idea!

Lady with goat
Awww, how sweet! In reality the goat kept looking away, and woman almost had
to strangle it to get it to look at the cameras so we could all get our
shots.

The Potter
This was a pottery village and we watched the potter do his stuff. It's magic
what he can do. The other art form was spinning up the wheel. Adam and I both
had a go, and both eventually succeeded, but at a much slower
pace.

Meherangarh Fort courtyard
Courtyard in the massive Meherangarh Fort in Jodhpur. This fort saw real
action and you can still see the cannon ball marks on the outer walls.

Cover Boy
This guy is a cover model. Yes, he was on the front cover of the 1993
Lonely Planet guide to India. Now he's retired and just smokes his bong.

Queen's chamber
Here we see some of the beautiful inlay work in the interior of the fort.
Unfortunately it doesn't come across so well on film.

|
View from the fort
Southwest view showing the lower part of the fort and part of the city. You
can see why they call Jodhpur the "Blue City". The locals don't like that
name however, they prefer "Sun City".

King's audience chamber
Here the Maharaja of Jodhpur would receive guests and hear complaints.

|
The Blue City
Originally the highest caste Hindus, the Brahmin, would paint their homes blue
to show their status. With the breakdown of the caste system, everybody
painted their house blue!

Clock tower
The clock tower of Jodhpur defines the central market area of the town. All
around are vegetable stalls, clothing stalls, and all sorts of trinkets and
crap.
