Kuala Lumpur then Varanasi:
Mosque of Shah Alam
Just outside of Kuala Lumpur, on the way to India, was the mosque of Shah Alam. Superb!

Jean in hotel garden
This is the garden of the hotel next to the hotel we were staying at in Varanasi. We'd go over for breakfast at the second hotel because it was cheaper.

Medieval Spotlighting
This one's for David Conway. One man aims the lamp, the other fires the weapon. Nothing's changed.

Sunrise over the Ganges
The trip started in earnest with a dawn boat ride along the sacred Ganges River.

Sunrise and boat
All the tourists were in boats like this one. A nice postcard shot I think!

Birds over the Ganges
Varanasi was populated by incredible giant Kites; much more impressive than the Wedgetailed Eagles back home; and there was a huge number of them. I tried to get a close up shot but they wouldn't cooperate. Here you see just how thick the air was with them.

The Ghats
Here are the Ghats (steps) that the faithful descend in order to bathe in the sacred Ganges. The Hindus believe that the Ganges will wash away your sins, and each tries to make a pilgrimage here once in their life.

The Sunken Temple
The local equivalent to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Sunken Temple sank because of the hubris of the ruler who built it. At least, that's the story the architect tells!
